This is just one example of what I would say is poor communication or miscommunication on the rules. I don't mean to be destructive on any GMs in anyway, but I would say that explaining that "its the rules" is closer to condescending to a player versus "some people have lackluster machines, and thusly, we try to help those players by not overwhelming them with spells in an already high density enviroment."
