looks great but it hasnt changed since patch 1.3. It always been there.

Story: In short

The dragons of the emerald dream, we know them as the world dragons azuregos and so on, have all been tainted. They now defend the portals to the emerald dream to protect thier king. The land is vast and littered with dragons from every crede, spectral, crimson, azure, onyx, etc. This is the land where the dragons went to when they were enslaved by humanoids. The emerald dream is the only place they can truly exist and be unharmed...so they thought. The scourge tainted a few certain dragons and sent them into the emerald dream to taint the remainder, now they build an invasion army to wreak havoc on the lands. Your goal is to fight back, enter the dream and slay the tainted ones to break the spell and return the dragons to thier rightful places.

Blizzard dropped the storyline when they found the developers were nearly complete with TBC. That is why the world portals never worked. There is suposed to be a portal at each world dragon, I believe there are actually only 2 that ever got modeled. Each portal granted access to one area of the Dream. To get to the final area you had to slay each world dragon, go through thier portal and defeat the tainted one. At which time the main world dragon in the druid territory comes down and is fightable. He gives some long speech about his fallen brethren and that you will pay for your deeds. Upon killing him he gives you a protal in the middle of the lake that leads you to the final road to the king of the emerald dream where the king thanks you and gives you special dragon defender armor.

Now youre probably asking how I know this. Well all I can tell you is that way back when Blizzard had this on a special test realm. It was by invite only that you got to go, and created a hue uproar when it was never realeased. The official word from Blizzard is that the emerald dream storyline actually comes into effect after WoTLK so possibly patch 3.? will allow it to become reality. And if you want to know the full story get Warcraft 3 and search for the patch called emerald dream. It plays out as a side story to the fight in northrend. Which is where we finally get to do battle with the crimson world dragon. The anticipation hurts.

That is all you need to know about the dream. From what I have read here and else where it is the end game scenario...well at least until wow2 or they make warcraft 4

And yes, your right. It has bad quality some places.

World of Warcraft has an expansion coming for the Emerald Dream, so it won't be textured until after the Wrath of the Lich King.

Yes, the place is real. on a server called WoWTrade they used to have their malls there, not sure if it is still the same as i havent played it for about 3 months.
