Retail Patch 2.3 - Do Not Download

Retail WOW is releasing patch 2.3 in the next couple of days. Do NOT download it. They've changed the packet structure once again and you will not be able to connect to ANY private server out there until the private community server changes the packet handling. on their cores. One way around the auto updating is make another copy of your WOW folder somewhere else on your hardrive and name it WaMMO or something.

Just open Windows Explorer, right click on your current WoW folder (c:/program files/world of warcraft/ ) select copy and paste it to c:/WaMMO or something. That way you have a copy of 2.2.3 that won't update automatically.

If you've already downloaded the patch accidently, follow the instructions below.

Repair Utility

Reverting the game to a previous version may also assist with the troubleshooting process. In order to revert the game to a previous version, please try the following steps:

1. Open your World of Warcraft directory (This is commonly located at C:\Program files\World of Warcraft)
2. Open the folder called "Data"
3. Delete the Patch.MPQ file
4. Run the repair.exe utility found in the World of Warcraft directory
5. Click the button "Reset and Check Files"
6. The repair utility will say, "World of Warcraft is seriously damaged and will need to be reverted to an earlier version. After it has been reverted you may need to patch up to continue playing."
7. Once the repair utility has completed, you will need to reapply the patch to enter the game.
8. Head over to Patch mirrors - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft and patch back up to 2.2.3

If you are having problems with the patch actually updating the game, this is most commonly corrected by uninstalling the game, then reinstalling, and trying the patch procedure again with no other programs running.

you could also set your shortcut to go to the wow.exe file directly instead of using the launcher...that way the background downloader isn't activated...

ook i have a question if you do the copy another folder, do you need to make your shortcut from that folder or can it be from the original folder....main reason i ask is i play both retail and Funservers

If you make a copy of the directory then you need to make the shortcut to the wow.exe in that folder. So if you've set up a FunserverWow directory, to play the funserver (bypassing the updater) then yes you shortcut to the wow in that folder.

ok i done the copying but when i klik on the wow exe it still does the download plz explaine what should i do after i finished copying wow directory to another folder plz

Create a new shortcut on your desktop to the wow.exe in the copied folder and use that shortcut to launch the game.

i've gotten so close after trying to figure this out after two days and i got it patched to 2.2.2 and when i logged into my account it said a patch is required and the only option was a button saying restart that tried to patch it up to 2.3.0 again, am i on the right track lol? cause it appears im really stuck now.

EDIT: Also when using the set realmlist pvp.warcraftmmo.com:3725 it tells me i have the wrong password and when trying set realmlist 72.52.236.193:3726 it says it is not a valid server and to try again. i feel like im close to figuring this out like im one step away lol

I just got it to work. I was trying to Browse WoW.exe on the launcher to the wrong thing. >.< Any idea how long it will be before it's updated to 2.3?

All of us are waiting mate, half of the servers are 2.3.0, but I think SIN wants to give the server without any kind of bugs, just perfect like the present one
